Inl 1195, the emperor Henry the sixth gave to Guidotto Massimo “pro se et heredibus” (for he and his descendants) the domain (feud) of Casamassima in Apulia, on the condition of changing the name from Massimo to Casamassima. Corrado IV, son of Federico II and his heir, passing by Casamassima, on april 1252, gave the title back to Roberto, son of Giovanni, (see parchment kept in the historical archive of Bari National Library). In the first week of July of every year the town of Casamassima remembers these events with a great procession Historical events may have forced some Casamassimas to migrate and change their name into Casamassa |
